Work-Life Balance



October 3rd.

Our Conversational Assitant or Trainer delighted us with his own personal presentation, hailing originally from London, he has lived in many countries all over the world, including the USA, France and Asia; he has also traveled profusely due to his education as an engineer and work experience in the fashion business.

His impressive power point presentation was useful to illustrate concepts like:

  • work-life balance 

as an introduction to a speaking activity in which SS discussed whether they live to work or work to live.

We also discussed other concepts like:

  • Typical routines of meals and working hours in different parts of the world,
  • Two kinds of negotiations: those of a win-win and a win-lose negotiations,
  • The internationalization of our siesta as a Power Nap.
We learnt that British people are on average more understated and Americans more enthusiastic in their statements; and expressions like shooting the breeze, to think outside the box or blue sky thinking, that is, to think outside your daily routine.

After our assistant's contribution, the class was asked to stand up in two lines, and SS paired up with the one infront of them, the topic was How was your weekend and What did you do?


Since SS were about four feet apart from each other they had to shout their questions and answers in a little noisy chaos intended to force your phonetic apparatus, control the volume of your voice, build up speaking confidence and let off steam.


Then, we went through homework emphasizing the production of new expressions with GET,

and we finished with the exam on Irregular Verbs classified by Morhological and phonological criteria, or as a student called it: An irregular exam on irregular verbs!

We interchanged finished exams, and for homework, they should mark those exams.

We finished our class with the expression: Let's call it a day  meaning let's consider this was already a day's work so time to go home.

We covered Vocabulary activities on pg. 12 - 1, 2 and 3. and left 4 for next day, we also interchanged finished exams, and for homework, they should mark those exams.
